Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD has been setting standards in visual computing for over 30 years. We bundle our unique range of competencies and technologies in a customized way for our clients. Visual computing combines computer graphics and computer vision. Put simply, it describes the ability to transform information into images and to extract information from images. In computer graphics, computers generate images, graphics or multidimensional representations that people process. Examples are virtual reality and simulated reality applications. Computer vision is the discipline that teaches computers to see. Here, a machine captures its environment using a camera and interprets it using artificial intelligence or classic image processing. Examples of applications can be found in optical quality control and augmented reality.
