Materials and process engineering aspects are often at the forefront of developing solutions for safe and high-performance energy storage systems. The institutes of the Transport Alliance are researching different approaches to develop the energy storage systems of the future. This includes electrical, chemical and thermal energy storage systems. The focus is on lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries and metal/air batteries. In addition, solid-state storage systems are also used, for example, to store hydrogen. Efficient and highly dynamic thermal energy storage systems round off the portfolio. The aim is to meet the challenges of storing electrical energy and to find innovative solutions.
